First Undersecretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) and Supervisor of Energy Efficiency and Climate Alaa El Batal has inaugurated a workshop on monitoring, reporting and verifying greenhouse gas emissions data.
The workshop was held in cooperation between the Ministries of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and Environment and the World Bank.
During the workshop, El Batal highlighted the importance of identifying and verifying greenhouse gas emissions data from the sector’s various activities.
The workshop activities included a presentation by Ahmad Wafiq, CEO of Integral Environmental Consulting Company, in cooperation with the World Bank. It introduced models for inventorying data on various emissions resulting from the use of petroleum products, flare gases, and methane gas, in addition to emissions from industrial processes in petrochemical plants.
Additionally, the workshop presented a methodology for identifying and evaluating greenhouse gas emission reduction projects, with the aim of following up on the progress made in achieving the nationally determined contributions with regard to the petroleum sector.
The workshop was held at the MoPMR headquarters in the New Administrative Capital in coordination with the General Administration of Energy Efficiency and Climate at the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.
