Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, has issued new leadership appointments at the ministry and for several petroleum sector companies. This comes as part of the ministry’s efforts to optimize the use of diverse expertise and introduce new leaders to vacant positions following retirements.
Hany Aziz Riyad has been appointed as Chairman and Managing Director of Abu Qir Petroleum Company. He began his career as an engineer at El Waha Petroleum Company (OWAPCO) in 1999, then progressed through various positions until he became Vice Chairman for Operations at El Hamra Oil Company in 2023.
Mahmoud Nagy Abdel Shafy has been appointed as Head of Central Administration overseeing health, safety, and environment (HSE), Energy Efficiency and Climate at the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR), as well as the Official Spokesperson for the Ministry. Abdel Shafy started his career as an engineer at the Petroleum Pipelines Company (PPC) in 2004, then rose through various ranks until he became Chairman of the Board of Directors of Assiut Petroleum Refining Company.
Yassin Mohamed Yassin has been appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Damietta Liquefied Natural Gas Company (DLNG). Yassin began his career as an engineer at Badr El-Din Petroleum Company (BAPETCO) in 1993 and progressed through various positions within the sector until he became Vice Chairman for Operations and Networks, as well as a Board Member of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) in 2020. In 2024, he assumed the position of First Undersecretary for HSE, Energy Efficiency, and Climate at MoPMR.
Mohamed Ali El-Din Ali has been appointed Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of Rashid Petroleum Company (Rashpetco). He began his career as an engineer at EGAS in 2006 and progressed through various positions until he became Chairman and Managing Director of North Sinai Petroleum Company (NOSPCO) in 2023.
Hamdy Ahmed El Nabawy has been appointed as Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of NOSPCO. El Nabawy started his career as a department head at Western Desert Operating Petroleum Company (WEPCO). He rose through various ranks across the sector until serving as General Manager for Operations at Disouq Petroleum Company (DISOUCO) in 2023.
Issa Mohamed Abdel-Aal has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors at Assiut Oil Refining Company (ASORC). Issa started his career journey at ASORC in 1998. Then he became the Manager of Gas Recovery in 2016, rising to the Managing Director of the Maintenance and Repairing Department.
Yasser Youssef Aboulelella has been appointed Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of Egyptian Company for Gas Services (ECGS). Yasser started as a department head at Egyptian Maintenance Company (EMC) in 2005. Then he took over the Assistant General Manager for Operations in 2020.
Moataz Yahia Mohamed was appointed as Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of Sianco. He began his career in the sector as an engineer at the Egyptian Company for Natural Gas Distribution to Cities (Town Gas) in 2001. He became Assistant General Manager for Technical Studies at EGAS in 2018.
Mohamed Abdel-Raouf El-Sabbagh was appointed Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of PetroAmir Petroleum Company. He began his career in the sector as an engineer at Khalda Petroleum Company in 2004, progressing through the positions within the sector until he assumed the position of General Manager of Operations and a member of the Board of Directors at PetroAmir Company.
Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed Ismail was assigned the role of Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of Natural Gas Vehicles Company (Cargas). He began his career in the sector as an engineer at Egypt Gas Company in 2006 and progressed through various positions until he became Assistant Vice President for Planning and Projects at the Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM) in 2024. He then served as Vice President of Egypt Gas.
Mohamed Sayed El-Baz was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of Suez Oil Processing Company (SOPC). He began his career in the sector as an engineer at Nasr Petroleum Company (NPC) in 2000, and progressed through the positions within the sector until he became General Manager of Engineering Affairs and a member of the Board of Directors of NPC in 2020.
Walid Afifi Mohamed was assigned the role of Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of Petro Nefertiti. He began his career in the sector as a senior geologist at Khalda Petroleum Company in 2007, then progressed through the positions in the sector until he became General Manager of Exploration and Development at Khalda Petroleum Company.
Ahmed Salah El-Din Abdel Rahman was appointed Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of North Marine Petroleum Company (Norpetco). He progressed through various positions until he became Assistant General Manager of Production at the company in 2011, then General Manager of the Eastern Region in 2015, and subsequently General Manager of Operations Safety at the company in 2024.
