MoPMR Boasts Gradual Rise in Oil, Gas Production in FY 2024/25

“Egypt’s Oil and Gas production is back on Track, with the sector succeeding in overcoming the decline witnessed in recent years to start a phase of gradual production increases,” the Ministry of petroleum and Mineral Resources(MoPMR) said in a press release accompanied by infographics showing the main measures taken by the government to reach this point.

Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi stated that the dedicated efforts of the petroleum sector and strategic partnerships were instrumental in achieving these results. He commended the international oil companies (IOCs) operating in Egypt for their commitment and continued support in achieving this strategic goal by adding:

“I would like to express my pride in your dedicated efforts, which have enabled Egypt to overcome the decline in oil and natural gas production and achieve stable production rates for the first time in four years.”

In Parallel, regular payment of monthly dues to foreign partners, along with the settlement of $1 billion in arrears, has also helped to stabilize production and attract new investments. The ministry has also implemented incentives to increase production, introduced new agreements, and offered 64 new investment opportunities through the Egypt Upstream Gateway (EUG) platform.

In July and August 2025, Egypt added more than 200 million cubic feet of gas per day (mmcf/d), resulting in $3.6 million in savings on the fuel import bill for FY 2024/25. The ministry continues to support production through cooperation with leading international oil companies (IOCs).

Encouraged by the new incentives, Apache made significant increases in natural gas production from the Western Desert ; Shell has begun gas production in West Delta Deep Marine (WDDM) concession from six new wells; and bp increased production from the Raven natural gas field and new discoveries in the Mediterranean Sea. Additionally, Eni resumed drilling in the Zohr field, and discoveries in the Western Desert fields operated by Agiba Petroleum, one of Eni’s joint ventures in Egypt, were made.
