Ministries of Petroleum and Public Business Sector Partner to Advance Mining Projects

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, and Minister of Public Business Sector, Mohamed Sheimy, held a high-level meeting at the petroleum ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital to finalize a framework for integrated industrial development.

The meeting focused on maximizing the economic returns of Egypt’s mineral wealth and accelerating energy infrastructure for the national textile modernization project, according to a statement by the Ministry of Public Business Sector.

A primary pillar of the cooperation involves two strategic phosphate fertilizer initiatives led by El Nasr Mining Company, a subsidiary of the Metallurgical Industries Holding Company. The first project, a partnership with the foreign private sector, aims to produce phosphate fertilizers utilizing a blend of oil shale and phosphate rock.

While the second initiative focuses on establishing a specialized facility to enhance phosphate ore concentration and purity, targeting increased capacity for both domestic supply and international exports.

In the industrial sector, the ministers coordinated efforts to accelerate natural gas supplies to several new factories at the Misr Spinning and Weaving Company in El Mahalla El Kubra.

This move is critical for the completion of the second phase of the National Project for the Development of the Spinning and Weaving Industry, which is reaching its final implementation stages to boost production efficiency and operational capacity.

Badawi emphasized that these collaborations align with the petroleum sector’s strategy to localize mining industries and convert raw materials into high-value downstream products.

By providing technical support and ensuring stable natural gas flows, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) aims to enhance the economic efficiency of public business sector companies, directly supporting the national industrial base.

Sheimy underscored the importance of institutional coordination to ensure national projects remain on schedule. He noted that raising the purity of mineral raw materials through advanced processing is a key objective for his ministry to reduce raw material exports and foster domestic manufacturing.

Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to deepening institutional cooperation to ensure optimal resource utilization and contribute to Egypt’s sustainable development goals.
