The Ministries of Electricity and Renewable Energy and Petroleum and Mineral Resources are negotiating alternative locations for the power plant planned for Dayrout, a source at the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC) told Al Mal News.
The source told Al Mal News that the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy has asked the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources about the possibility of extending a gas pipeline to Qena and Luxor in order to supply the plant.
In 2016, Prime Minister Sherif Ismail issued a decree to move the plant’s proposed location to a more southern location to prevent the over-centralization of Egypt’s power plants. Dayrout, located in the Beheira Governorate, is approximately halfway between Minya and Aswan.
The plant was to be built by ACWA Power, but negotiations between the government and the company have come to a halt until the government reaches a decision on the plant’s locations.
