Ministers of International Cooperation, Electricity Discuss “Nouwfi” Program Energy Projects

Minister of International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat met with Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker to discuss projects including the National Platform for Green Projects and Climate Action as well as the “Nouwfi” program, the Cabinet said in a statement.

The meeting reviewed how food, water and energy projects overlap, aiming to mobilize concessional development finances, technical support and investments by the private sector for a package of priority green development projects within the framework of Egypt’s comprehensive National Climate Strategy 2050.

This comes within the framework of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives to provide support for national programs that promote climate action and cooperate with development partners to present successful national models to build on regionally and internationally, in addition to enhancing efforts to implement climate action commitments.

The two ministers further highlighted the importance of the national investment platform for green projects and climate action, the “Nouwfi” program, in pushing the country’s efforts to transform into a green economy and implementing the goals of the National Strategy for Climate Change, which are its goals of achieving comprehensive and sustainable economic growth and low-emissions development.

The program’s significance further includes building resilience and adaptability to climate change, improving governance and management of work in the field of climate change, developing infrastructure to finance climate activities, promoting scientific research and technology transfer, explaining that the program supports this vision, by working in intersecting tracks, whether mobilizing concessional development funds or technical support grants, which represent an excellent incentive for private sector participation through its investments.

The discussions touched on the time map for starting work on the “Nouwfi” program, the steps to be taken during the coming period, whether during the Egypt-ICF202 Forum, or preparing for the COP27 climate summit, and the subsequent procedures for continuous coordination to provide all the support required to implement projects included in the energy hub.
