Minister Badawi Outlines Vision for Egypt’s Mining Future

On the sidelines of the Egypt Mining Forum, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi participated in a panel discussion titled “Diversifying the Economy through Egypt’s Untapped Mineral Wealth.” Joined by Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad and Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk, the panel highlighted the crucial role of inter-ministerial cooperation in driving economic diversification.

During his speech, Badawi emphasized that the collaborative efforts of the new government and its unwavering commitment to success are driving force behind the mining industry’s growth. He highlighted the importance of balancing resource extraction with environmental preservation and emissions reduction. Badawi reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast dedication to sustainable development, climate goals, and creating a favorable investment climate.

Badawi added that the presence of the Ministers of Environment and Finance underscores the government’s strong and sustained support for mining investments.

Badawi stated that his interactions with explorers, experts, and long-time investors in Egypt have highlighted significant opportunities to increase investments. He emphasized their commitment to expanding the investment base, adhering to green mining practices, achieving sustainability, and building on their successes. Badawi acknowledged the ongoing need for innovation, diversification, and digital transformation. He noted the experimental operation of the digital mining platform at the forum, which they are working to launch. This platform will provide clear data to support plans to increase mining investments, enhance returns, and establish mining as a key pillar of the national economy. The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources is pursuing this commitment with openness to collaboration and participation from all stakeholders.

“We are working to launch a digital mining platform that will provide transparent data to support our plans for boosting mining investment, increasing its returns, and making it a major contributor to the national economy,” Badawi said. “This is a commitment of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, which we are pursuing through open collaboration and participation.”
