Madbouly Urges Swift Action on Power Outages in First Meeting with New Cabinet

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has held his first meeting with the new Cabinet to discuss measures being taken to resolve the current electricity challenge.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi; Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat; and Minister of Finance, Ahmed Kouchouk.

Madbouly began the meeting by expressing his eagerness for the first session of the newly formed government to focus on monitoring the ongoing measures by the ministries and relevant authorities to address the problem of power outages. The goal is to reduce loads and ultimately achieve a final and comprehensive solution to this issue, as outlined in the government’s recently announced plan.

In this context, Madbouly explained that during the previous period, several meetings were held with the relevant ministers and officials with the aim of finding solutions to this problem.

Madbouly told the meeting’s attendees “You are tasked from now on to develop a permanent solution to this problem. We previously presented an exceptional solution for the current summer months, by pledging to provide about $1.2 billion to finance the purchase of petroleum materials necessary to operate power plants, and we promised to provide the final solution by the end of the year, which requires taking measures to ensure this is implemented.”

The Prime Minister pointed out another point related to the necessity of working to rationalize consumption, complete this system, and confront the phenomenon of electricity theft and other random phenomena that violate the law.

Meanwhile, Badawi stated that work is currently underway to implement the mandates for supplying the necessary shipments of petroleum materials to the electricity sector. He also noted that there is an ongoing integrated plan to increase the production of petroleum products, aiming to meet the needs of this crucial sector and contribute to a comprehensive solution to the problem of power outages.
