Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met with Mohammed Saeed Al Dhanhani, Director of the Fujairah Emiri Diwan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and senior Fujairah officials to review progress on the Fujairah-Alamein Oil and Gas project. The meeting follows the establishment of a joint venture tasked with developing a petroleum storage and trading hub at the El-Hamra Petroleum Port in New Alamein, according to a statement by the Cabinet.
The meeting, held at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, focused on the remaining procedures and execution steps required to bring the project into operation, including accelerating the establishment of a private free zone for Fujairah Alamein Oil and Gas.
Madbouly said the project, which will handle and store crude oil and petroleum products, is a strategic priority supported by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. He said faster progress was needed to establish the special free zone and move the project into its operational phase, reinforcing the economic partnership between Egypt and the UAE.
The planned zone is intended to develop, operate, and manage facilities for the receipt, storage, handling, and trading of crude oil and petroleum products at El-Hamra on Egypt’s Mediterranean coast. Officials also reviewed the modernization of the port and the transfer of technical and operational expertise from Fujairah, whose oil storage and trading ecosystem is among the region’s most established.
Badawi said Egyptian and Emirati teams are working in continuous coordination to finalize the required procedures and develop a defined implementation schedule. He added that the ministry would provide support to overcome any obstacles facing execution.
Al Dhanhani noted that Fujairah is committed to accelerating the project in line with directives from Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah. He thanked the Egyptian government and the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources for their support in establishing the company.
The project is designed to capitalize on El-Hamra’s existing infrastructure and location, positioning the terminal as a strategic Mediterranean point for crude storage, transport, and petroleum-product trade. Madbouly said he would personally follow implementation progress, with the aim of replicating Fujairah’s experience in petroleum logistics and trading.
The meeting was attended by Karim Badai, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources; Salah Abdel Kerim, CEO of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC); Hani Abdel-Moneim, CEO of the Fujairah International Oil and Gas Corporation; and Ibrahim Massoud, Chairman of Western Desert Operating Petroleum Company (WEPCO) and Fujairah Alamein Oil and Gas.
Earlier in August, the Cabinet approved the establishment of the special free zone according to Decree No. 65 of 2026. The new free zone, which covers about 737,915 square meters, will be dedicated to the storage and trading of petroleum products and crude oil. According to the Decree, the company must export at least 100% of its annual production, and its products must contain at least 50% local content.
