Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly held a meeting to follow up on the status of land allocation on which green hydrogen production facilities are scheduled to be built.
At the beginning of the meeting, Madbouly pointed out the state’s interest in the renewable energy sector. He added it is working continuously to provide more facilities and incentives that would contribute to attracting more investments to this vital sector.
Madbouly noted that this meeting comes part of a series of routine follow-ups on the progress of land allocation on which green hydrogen production projects are scheduled to be implemented. These follow-ups also involve reviewing what is proposed from those lands to complete the implementation of such vital projects.
During the meeting, Mohammed El Khayat, the Executive Chairman of the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA), presented the status of lands for renewable energy projects to produce green hydrogen, for which memorandums of understanding were signed, and the distribution of these projects throughout the country.
When discussing wind energy and solar energy in their experimental and first stages, he discussed the expected production capacities and the amount of the final product that would be produced of green hydrogen, ammonia, and biomethanol. He pointed that performance will depend on the capabilities of electrolyzers for renewable energy projects.
El Khayat provided a detailed statement of the proposed memorandums of understanding that are scheduled to be signed with a number of developers during the coming period to implement projects to produce green hydrogen. These amount to a total of about 13 memorandums, with a combined capacity of 49.2 gigawatts, El Khayat pointed out.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker.
