Madbouly Pushes for Faster Adoption of CNG Across Transportation Sector

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met with Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi and Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk to follow up on nationwide efforts to convert cars to operate on compressed natural gas (CNG).

At the beginning of the meeting, Madbouly said that there is great interest in converting cars to operate with CNG, which is less expensive fuel compared to traditional fuel; in addition to contributing to environmental sustainability, it is also more abundant for consumers.

Madbouly stated that the government will begin converting its vehicles to operate on natural gas, noting its environmental and financial benefits.

He highlighted the need to double the number of cars targeted for conversion, and to develop a plan to double the conversion of cars from gasoline to gas from 122,000 to 250,000 cars, with the need to provide incentives for those who convert.

In this context, Badawi reviewed the annual economic yield of the initiative to deploy one million CNG-powered vehicles, as well as the prerequisites for executing the plan to convert vehicles to operate on CNG.

Badawi stated that the transportation sector is a major axis of the gas market, noting that government initiatives play a major role in stimulating the use of compressed natural gas in public transport fleets as well as commercial activities, as countries seek to maximize their use of compressed natural gas as an alternative to traditional energy.
