Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly participated in the inauguration ceremony of the Abydos 1 Solar Power Plant in the Kom Ombo Desert in Aswan Governorate.
Upon his arrival at the site of the Abydos 1 Solar Power Plant, the Prime Minister was keen to take a group photo with the officials and workers at the plant, in appreciation of the great efforts they made to establish this important edifice.
The inauguration took place in presence of Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat, and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat.
During his speech, Esmat said “Today we are witnessing the opening of one of the renewable energy production stations in Egypt with a capacity of 500 megawatts in Aswan Governorate, which is the Abydos 1 solar energy station, noting that there is a second phase of the project with greater capacities.”
Meanwhile, Al-Mashat stated that this project is among other projects that fall within the energy axis of the National Platform of the NWFE Program, which was launched at the COP 27 Climate Conference in Sharm El-Sheikh, and its aim was to mobilize soft financing to support the private sector in meeting Egypt’s needs for nationally determined contributions.
During the ceremony, Hussain AlNowais, Chairman of the Board of Directors of AMEA Power, delivered a speech, saying that the Abydos Solar Power Plant is a landmark of the renaissance witnessed by the Egyptian state under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
