Madbouly: Egypt Accelerates Gas Production and Regional Expansion

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met with Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, to review efforts to secure domestic energy supplies, increase oil and gas production, and accelerate exploration and field development, according to a statement by the Cabinet.

Madbouly stressed the government’s priority of ensuring sustainable supplies of petroleum products and natural gas, while supporting new discoveries and strengthening Egypt’s position as a regional energy trading and distribution hub.

Badawi said production has started from the Fayoum-4 well in the West Delta Deep Marine area, two years ahead of schedule, adding around 80 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/d) of natural gas. The project was accelerated through the use of existing offshore infrastructure.

He also mentioned that the Petroleum Projects and Technical Consultations Company (PETROJET) signed a $22.7 million contract to implement a natural gas connection project for the Al-Muwaqqar Developmental Industrial Area south of Amman, Jordan. The project supports the ministry’s strategy to expand Egyptian petroleum companies’ activities in international markets and leverage their technical expertise in energy infrastructure.

Badawi also reviewed strategic oil and gas projects being implemented with major international companies, including exploration and development drilling plans in the Mediterranean, aimed at increasing production and developing Egypt’s hydrocarbon resources.

Egypt is accelerating efforts to raise domestic natural gas production and bring new discoveries online to strengthen energy security and reduce reliance on imports. The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) has also been pursuing faster field development and greater use of existing infrastructure, alongside expanding the regional activities of Egyptian petroleum companies.
