Jordan’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Hala Zawati and US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Francis Fannon discussed bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, Jordon Times reported.
During the meeting, Zawati discussed the sector’s developments in the Hashemite Kingdom, noting that 99% of the Jordanian population is covered by the national power grid. She then further highlighted the variety of energy sources and the contribution of renewable energy projects that currently cover around 12% of electricity consumption.
Moreover, Zawati stressed the importance of electricity grid interconnection with neighboring countries to enhance energy security and stability.
On the other hand, Fannon affirmed his country’s commitment to supporting Jordan’s energy sector.
Jordan has built renewable energy projects worth $70.5 million over the past four years, through the Jordan Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund (JREEEF).
