Italy seized a smuggling vessel sailing from Libya bearing 100 tons of diesel, indicating that fuel smuggling from Libya continues despite previous efforts by the Italian government to arrest smugglers, Reuters reports.
The seizure occurred on November 4th. The ship was manned by an Indonesian crew but bore a Togolese flag, according to Reuters.
Last month Italy arrested six suspected smugglers, accusing them of running a fuel-smuggling operation that had sold over 30 million euros worth of diesel in Italy, Reuters reported at the time.
Libya’s oil industry has suffered a number of production setbacks over the past few months due to poor security conditions and protests.
