Iraq’s SOMO Seeks Gasoil Cargoes via Spot Tender

Iraq’s State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO) seeks to purchase gasoil cargoes for delivery in August and September through a spot tender, Reuters reported.

The state-owned company is seeking to purchase 127,500 tons (949,875 barrels) of gasoil with a sulfur content of 2,500 parts per million, with the first cargo of 40,000 tons scheduled to be loaded by August 1.

The deadline for submitting bids in the tender is July 22, with offers to remain valid for 20 days.

Two trading sources said that SOMO sought in January to sell volumes of gasoil with a sulfur content of 1,000 parts per million for shipment between February and April, either from Khor al-Zubair port or Umm Qasr port.

SOMO has also been active in fuel oil exports, including contracts routed via Syria in 2026 due to disruptions in Gulf shipping lanes.

Iraq began operating the new Karbala refinery in 2023, at full capacity reaching 140,000 barrels per day (bbl/d), following its trial operation carried out on September 11, 2023.
