Iraq’s East Baghdad-Rashidiya Field Reaches 8,000 bbl/d Capacity

The East Baghdad-Rashidiya field has reached a production capacity of approximately 8,000 barrels per day (bbl/d) of crude oil and 15 million cubic feet per day (mmcf/d) of dry gas, according to a statement from Iraq’s Ministry of Oil.

Operated by the state-run Central Oil Company, the onshore field produces from three main geological formations: Tanuma, Khasib, and Zubair, with well depths ranging between 1,900 and 3,000 meters in the Zubair formation. The site currently produces from 43 wells, divided between naturally high-pressure and low-pressure wells, each processed in separate gas separators.

Walid Nabil, Deputy Director of Production at the Central Oil Company, explained that the facility operates with two processing lines: an integrated line handling both oil and associated gas, and a second line dedicated solely to oil production. The latter was built by an Italian company in 2014 to international standards and remains in continuous operation.

Crude oil is processed through three separation units where gas is removed, and salts are treated before being supplied to the Al-Quds power plant.

The associated gas, which Nabil noted is acidic and requires special treatment to become dry, sweet gas, undergoes compression, desalination, and drying before being transported to the Al-Taji power plant for electricity generation.

Nabil also highlighted infrastructure updates, noting that a newly constructed second pipeline has been left exposed to facilitate maintenance and operational work.

The East Baghdad–Rashidiya field is an onshore oil and gas field located northeast of Baghdad and operated by Iraq’s Central Oil Company. It is produced from multiple reservoirs, including the Zubair formation, and supplies crude oil and gas to nearby power plants for electricity generation.
