The Iraqi Ministry of Oil awarded the development of Dhi Qar refinery project to a major Chinese consortium involving Al Awsat Energy Consortium (San China Company), Inspire company and Norinco, a press release reported.
The Iraqi Oil Minister, Ihsan Abdul Jabbar Ismael, said that this refinery will include integrated productive units at a capacity of 100,000 barrels per day (p/d). He added that it will be implemented according to the latest technical standards, quality and advanced technologies (Euro 5).
Ismael indicated the importance of the refinery in supporting the refining sector in Iraq and covering a large part of the domestic needs wishing to sign the contract within the ongoing month.
It is worth noting that the Oil Ministry has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), in January, for establishing a refinery in Dhi Qar governorate in order to raise the production capacity rates of petroleum products and fuels.
