The UAE said Iran attacked a vessel operated by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), the state- owned company, while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Friday, August 14, according to Reuters citing the UAE state news agency WAM.

ADNOC confirmed that no injuries were reported and that the situation was brought under control.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the incident, calling on Tehran to stop what it described as “unprovoked attacks,” end hostilities, and fully restore navigation through the strategic waterway.

The incident marks the third reported attack involving an ADNOC vessel in less than a week. Abu Dhabi has also attributed the previous incidents to Iran.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has previously warned that vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz could face action if they are linked to countries considered hostile to Tehran or fail to comply with Iranian instructions.

Separately, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that a bulk carrier was struck by an unidentified projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Friday. It was not immediately confirmed whether the vessel was the same ADNOC ship involved in the reported attack.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global energy chokepoint, through which a significant share of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas supplies pass. Continued incidents in the waterway could heighten concerns over the security of energy shipments and regional maritime traffic.
