Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, announced the launch of 450-kilometer gas pipeline linking the southern states of Kerala and Karnataka as a part of its plan to develop coastal regions. He added that this pipeline is built by GAIL LTD to help industries, households and vehicles convert into using the cleaner fuel, Reuters reported.
Modi noted that Indian companies are spending billions of dollars to build infrastructure to raise the share of gas in its energy mix from to 15% by 2030. The current share of gas in the energy mix is 6%. The minister said that India’s plans to develop the coastal region will include efforts to boost fisheries and seaweed exports.
