Gazprom’s Natural Gas Supplies to Europe Drop by Over 50% in 2023

Russian energy giant Gazprom has seen a decrease in its natural gas supplies to Europe in recent years.

Reuters calculated that these supplies were down by 55.6% in 2023, reaching only 28.3 billion cubic meters (bcm).

Meanwhile, Russia supplied a total of around 63.8 bcm of gas to Europe by various routes in 2022, аccording to Gazprom data and Reuters’ calculations.

Furthermore, the average daily pipeline exports of Russian gas to Europe dropped from 174.8 mcm in 2022 to 77.6 mcm in 2023, based on data from the European gas transmission group Entsog and Gazprom’s daily reports on gas transit via Ukraine.

Once the primary export market for Gazprom, Europe has seen a sharp decline in Russian gas supplies due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. In 2018–2019, annual flows reached a peak of 175–180 bcm but have since decreased significantly.
