Russia’s Gazprom has transported 38.8 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas to China through the Power of Siberia pipeline in 2025, surpassing its planned annual capacity. The achievement marks a significant milestone in the energy partnership between the two nations, with delivery volumes exceeding the previously established contractual targets for the year, according to Reuters.

The 2025 export figures represent a substantial increase from the 31 bcm recorded in 2024, with the pipeline currently operating above its intended 38 bcm annual limit.

According to Aleksei Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, the company provided approximately 800 million cubic meters (mmcm) more than its contractual obligations. These figures highlight the strategic shift in Russia’s pipeline exports as it scales its trans-border energy infrastructure.

Miller noted during a year-end review that the company successfully reached its primary supply targets while maintaining operational excellence. The Power of Siberia 1 pipeline, which began pumping natural gas from eastern Siberia to China in late 2019, has become a structural pillar of the region’s energy security.

Looking toward future expansion, Russia and China signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in September to develop the Power of Siberia 2 pipeline. This new cross-border project, which is planned to run through Mongolia, is designed to have a capacity of up to 50 bcm of natural gas per year.

This expansion is expected to further solidify the energy corridor between the two countries as domestic and industrial demand in China continues to rise.
