GASTEC Natural Gas Sales for Vehicles Jump 107% in 2024

The Egyptian International Gas Technology Company (GASTEC) Chairman Abdelfattah Farahat reviewed the most important results of the company’s operations for the year 2024, explaining the strengthening of the natural gas fueling station network through the operation of numerous stations bearing the company’s brand.

Farahat pointed out the significant increase in natural gas sales for vehicles achieved during the year, with a growth rate of 107% compared to the previous year, and the conversion of more than 20,000 vehicles to run on natural gas.

This came during the General Assembly meeting of GASTEC to discuss and approve the company’s performance results for the year 2024. The meeting was held in presence of Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi.

Farahat also highlighted the development and increase in the operational capacity of a number of existing stations. Furthermore, two integrated stations for natural gas and liquid fuel fueling (GASTEC – Eni) were established.

Liquid fuel sales increased by 130% compared to the previous year, reflecting the continued success and significant growth in the company’s performance in this vital activity. Additionally, oil sales increased by 195% compared to the previous year.

Badawi, affirmed that the oil and gas sector is proceeding with serious steps in implementing the initiative to fuel vehicles with natural gas and provide the appropriate logistical services for the expansion of this activity, which includes fueling stations and conversion centers, to provide distinguished service to citizens.

The minister noted that these efforts are accompanied by an intensification of digital transformation processes for the various services provided by the sector’s companies, with the aim of making things easier for customers and achieving the principles of speed and efficiency of operations.

Additionally, Badawi stated that the Ministry provides all means of support to empower women and activate their role in all fields of petroleum work, directing the need to explore the possibility of expanding the establishment of joint stations between GASTEC and Eni by identifying the best locations for expanding the activity.

The Minister praised the integration of compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicle conversion training programs within the curricula of the Zohr School for Applied Technology.

GASTEC continued its efforts to supply natural gas to tourist and industrial areas and facilities located far from the natural gas pipeline network. An alternative solution to traditional pressure reduction units was innovated, which is a compressed natural gas (CNG) reduction system using an expansion tank.

This aims to utilize locally available resources and assemble them according to Egyptian and international standard specifications. The alternative system is characterized by providing automatic and remote control of the system compared to the traditional one.
