GASCO Transmits 2,300 bcf of Natural Gas in 2025

The Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO) received and transmitted approximately 2,300 billion cubic feet (bcf) of natural gas through the national grid during 2025 to meet domestic demand, Mohamed Marzouk, Chairman of the company, told the company’s general assembly meeting attended by Karim Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.

Marzouk highlighted several strategic projects at the ports of Sokhna and Damietta, including building the infrastructure to receive gas from Floating Storage Regasification Units (FSRUs) and connect it to the national grid; this allowed GASCO to supply gas to meet the peak daily electricity demand of 6.2 bcf/day without service interruptions.

Regarding transport projects, Marzouk explained that the expansion of the Dahshur Compression Station is ongoing with the addition of two new units with a total capacity of 18 million cubic meters per day (mmcm/d). This project incorporates Waste Heat Recovery (WHR) technology to generate approximately 24 megawatts (MW) of electricity without additional fuel consumption, with operations scheduled to commence during the second quarter (Q2) of 2026.

Marzouk highlighted the company’s success in its gas derivatives separation activities, achieving 117% of the production plan with a total of 1.85 million tons (mmt). This brings cumulative production to over 40 mmt, further supporting value-added industries.

GASCO also finalized the capacity expansion project for the Western Desert Natural Gas Complex (Train D), which has a capacity of 600 mmcf/d. This brings the total capacity to approximately 1.5 bcf/d, paving the way for the start of commercial operations during Q2 2026.

The company’s plan for the 2026-2030 period includes enhancing the flexibility of the national natural gas grid, accommodating new natural gas sources, increasing operational efficiency, and reducing fuel consumption, alongside expanding renewable energy projects.

Badawi pointed out that securing natural gas supplies reflects the sector’s high level of readiness. He praised the teams that established the liquefied natural gas (LNG) import infrastructure at Sokhna and Damietta ports in record time, as this serves as a safety valve for domestic energy needs during peak summer months.

Since its establishment in 1997, Gasco has conducted activities in the field of transporting, distributing, supplying, and processing natural gas. In November 2023, it expanded its scope to include the production, transport, and export of hydrogen, as well as the separation and transport of carbon dioxide.
