GASCO Supplies Consumers with 61.1 bcm of Natural Gas in 2020

The Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO) said that it has supplied the consumption sectors including the local and export markets with 61.1 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas in 2020 through the national network, a press statement  stated.

According to the press statement, the electric sector had the lion’s share from the gas supply having a 60 % of the total distribution.

The data was revealed during the general assembly’s meeting of the Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO), chaired by the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Tarek El Molla, via video conference to approve the results of 2020.

During the meeting, the minister issued directives to increase the coordination between GASCO and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) to develop an integrated network plan that extends to 2040, to cover the entire country especially the south that witnesses massive investments and new industrial spots.

GASCO’s Chairman, Yasser Salah El Din stated that the company has implemented several projects to strengthen the length of the national natural gas network, bringing the total network length by the end of 2020 to about 8,000 km with a transportation capacity of 250 million cubic meters per day (mmcm/d).

Furthermore, GASCO chairman showcased a project that has been implemented to receive the imported butane at the dock of United Gas Derivatives Company (UGDC) in Damietta port at a rate of 600,000 tons per year.

For his part, the petroleum minister called for raising the efficiency of the national network of natural gas as well as updating the national center for network control and SCADA system to meet the future needs of natural gas  in Egypt. He also praised GASCO’s achievements  especially during the conditions of the Covid- 19 pandemic.
