Gas Pipeline Reopens in Libya

Gas Pipeline Reopens in Libya

The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) announced that the Sidi Al-Sayeh gas pipeline has reopened, according to a press release.

The Sidi Al-Sayeh gas pipeline feeds power generation units in Western Libya. GECOL announced that it will replace feeding generation units in western Libya with natural gas after completing all the necessary repairs and reactivating all the necessary shut-down units.

GECOL has pleaded that no vandalizing should take place which will ultimately affect the provision of essential amenities to the Libyan people. GECOL added “The reopening of the gas pipeline will help stabilize the power network and feed all power generation units in all areas.”

The pipeline has been closed since April 10 after an illegal blockade which caused shortages in electricity supplies to the western region.
