France Secures Monthly Qatari LNG Supplies for Winter

French President Emmanuel Macron said France had secured additional liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from Qatar, Bloomberg reported on October 21.

Macron added that Paris will work on reducing fuel transportation costs from the Gulf as it seeks to curb a sharp rise in energy costs linked to the conflict in the Middle East and the war in Ukraine.

The president announced that that France would receive the equivalent of 2 terawatt-hours (TWh) of LNG per month during the winter under agreements reached in the region.

France is also working to improve the security of some tankers and develop a mechanism to help provide insurance coverage for certain vessels operating in the region, Macron said.

On October 20, Macron declared securing commitments from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Bahrain to supply additional diesel over the coming months.
