Ethydco Sales Top EGP 5.7 Bn as Exports Grow 5.4%

The Egyptian Ethylene and Derivatives Company (ETHYDCO) has met 102% its production target this year, reaching 302,000 tons of ethylene and 305,000 tons of polyethylene, said Chairman Hesham Riyad while reviewing the company’s performance during its general assembly meeting. The meeting was attended by Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and the company’s executives.

Riyad added that total sales in the local market and exports exceeded EGP 5.7 billion, recording 5.4% growth in exports . This was driven by the company’s expansion in Latin American markets, particularly Brazil, in addition to markets in Africa, Europe, and Turkey. Locally, Ethydco’s products covered the needs of over 40 industrial complexes.

Badawi noted that Ethydco has created significant added value from locally produced petroleum by manufacturing high‑quality polyethylene, thereby advancing the localization of Egypt’s petrochemical industry.

Badawi instructed the company to prepare a comprehensive global market study to identify each market’s specific characteristics and requirements, with particular emphasis on jurisdictions that enforce environmental standards and measure products’ carbon footprints.

Ethydco has recently launched a new polyethene product for blow-moulding applications, supporting the local market and serving key industries such as automotive, oil containers, and other products requiring high-quality, durable packaging.

In 2024, the company developed in 2024 a new polyethylene product for coating steel pipes to protect them from corrosion. As a result, it obtained SKZ Germany certification for its polyethylene products, enabling their use in water, gas, and sewage pipeline networks in national projects.

Riyad noted that Ethydco has become the first petrochemical company to include Scope 3 emissions in measuring its carbon footprint, and the first in the sector to obtain international certification for environmental disclosure reports for polyethylene products, while similar studies are underway for around 10 additional products.

Scope 3 is indirect greenhouse gases produced throughout a company’s value chain, including both upstream (suppliers) and downstream (customers) activities.

The minister concluded by stressing on the need for the company to develop a five-year expansion plan focused on producing high-value-added products, while benefiting from the company’s distinguished human resources and strengthening integration with companies across the petroleum and petrochemicals sector to exchange expertise and experience.

ETHYDCO is one of the largest petrochemical manufacturing complexes in Egypt, producing polyethene used in gas, water, and sewage pipes, as well as in packaging and wrapping industries, plastic containers, tanks, ropes, and medical supplies.
