EOG’s Women in Energy Network Hosts “Taking the Lead on Your Career” Mentorship Event

Women in Energy Network, a part of the Egypt Oil and Gas (EOG) Committee, has taken a bold step to support women in the industry by hosting the mentoring event “Taking the Lead on Your Career” on November 1st.

The event, sponsored by Neptune Energy, started with remarks delivered by Alexandra Thomas, Managing Director Egypt at Neptune Energy; Kristian Svendsen, Country Manager at Chevron Egypt; and Anastasia Poole, Digital & Integration General Manager Egypt, Sudan, East Mediterranean; and Exploration Data Manager MENA at SLB.

Thomas said, “When we asked women in the industry how can we best support you in your careers, the overwhelming response was please help us with mentoring.”

Meanwhile, Svendsen talked about the Men Advocating Real Change (MARC) program adopted by Chevron. “MARC encourages men to take an active role in driving change and fostering an inclusive environment within the workplace.”

Additionally, Poole stated “This event was born as a result of the overwhelming demand from women in the energy community. Led by the Women in Energy Committee with the support of EOG and with the help of many volunteers, we put together the first-of-its-kind event in Egypt. The unique speed mentoring group format will allow you to explore a variety of mentoring topics in a short period of time explore different mentoring styles and build long-lasting connections with your peers.

We hope this to be one of the many more successful events to come to support women in Energy development and growth.”

During the event, Thomas shared her expertise on – “How to Get a Mentor and Get the Most Out of a Mentoring Relationship”.

Moreover, Amal El-Sheikh, Chairwoman and Managing Director of Shell Lubricants Egypt, shared her wisdom on the topic of “Working with Diverse Teams: How to Thrive with Different Cultures and Personality Types”.

Poole shared her insights on “Creating Your Career vs. Just Letting It Happen”.

Additionally, Dalia ElGabry, Commercial General Manager at Shell Egypt, shared her expertise on “How to Get a Mentor and Get the Most Out of a Mentoring Relationship”.

Meanwhile, Eleanor Rowley, Managing Director of Capricorn Energy Egypt, led a captivating mentorship session on “Building vs. Leveraging Relationships”.

The event hosted many distinguished mentors including Heba Rezk, Senior Commercial Manager at – EastMed Gas Marketing – Chevron; Heidi Mamdouh, Founder, Lead Consultant, and Executive Coach at Grit; Iman Wafy, CEO Assistant for Information Technology & Telecommunication at EGPC; and Isabel Geerdes, Egypt Exploration Manager at Chevron.

Mentors at the event further included Rania Adel, Communications & Events specialist at the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources; and Omneya Abdellatif, Managing Counsel & Head of Legal at Shell Egypt.

At the end of the event, closing remarks were delivered by Poole, Thomas, and Rowley, who thanked both mentors and mentees for their time. Furthermore, Rowley encouraged attendees to approach the Women in Energy Committee members any time they have an idea for a networking event empowering women.
