Eni, TotalEnergies Announce Successful Appraisal of Cronos-2 Well Offshore Cyprus

Eni and TotalEnergies have announced the successful completion of the drilling and production test of the Cronos-2 appraisal well in Block 6, offshore Cyprus.

Located approximately 160 km southwest of the Cyprus coast, the well encountered several carbonate reservoir intervals with a net reservoir thickness of 115 meters. The production test also confirmed the excellent gas deliverability of the well.

Cronos-2 was drilled to confirm the lateral extension of the Cronos gas discovery (with the Cronos 1 exploration well) and to assess the reservoir characteristics by performing a production test.

The production test showed an estimated production capacity of more than 150 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) in the production configuration, which supported the studies to select the best development option.

“The successful appraisal of the Cronos gas discovery confirms the presence of significant resources and production potential in Block 6. Full evaluation of the discovered resources will now be carried out to determine the best development option to contribute to supplying gas to Europe and the region,” said Julien Pouget, Senior Vice President Middle East & North Africa, Exploration & Production at TotalEnergies.

Drilling Cronos-2 shortly after the discovery of Cronos confirms the commitment of Eni and its partner TotalEnergies to progress swiftly towards the selection of the most suitable and economically viable development solution, which will contribute to the supply of gas to Europe and the region, Eni stated in a press release.

Block 6 is operated by Eni, with 50% interest, alongside TotalEnergies holding 50% as a partner.

Besides Block 6, TotalEnergies is also present in several other offshore blocks in Cyprus, including Block 11 (50%, operator), Block 7 (50%, operator), Block 2 (20%), Block 3 (30%), Block 8 (40%), and Block 9 (20%).

Eni, present in Cyprus since 2013, also operates Blocks 2, 3, 8, and 9, and has participating interests in Blocks 7 and 11 operated by TotalEnergies.
