Eni Seeks License to Construct Egyptian Solar Plant

Italy’s Eni has requested a license from the Egyptian Electric Utility and Consumer Protection Regulatory Agency (EgyptERA) to establish a 50 MW solar power plant, sources at the Ministry of Electricity told Al Borsa News.

The company will build the plant as an independent power producer (IPP). This means it will construct the facility and sell energy directly to consumers after it begins operations.

Eni is also negotiating with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) to establish a 250 MW solar plant under the Build-Own-Operate (BOO) system.

The company has said it will invest $300 million in the two plants.
