Eni has completed the sale of its participation interest in several upstream permits to Perenco in Congo. The transaction, approved via relevant authorities, is consistent with Eni’s strategy to focus its upstream activities on major developments, according to the company’s statement.
Eni has been operating in Congo for over 50 years and considers the country a key part of its strategy for ensuring energy security and promoting energy transition initiatives.
To date, Eni is the only company committed to developing the country’s vast gas resources, in particular through the Congo LNG project, fulfilling the country’s power generation needs while also fueling LNG exports, supplying new volumes of gas to international markets focusing on Europe, as the company said.
Eni currently supplies gas to the Congo Electric Power Station (CEC), which provides 70% of the country’s electricity production. It also promotes energy transition in the country through various initiatives, including the development of Agri-feedstock production for biorefining which is non-competed with the food supply chain.
