El Sisi: Egypt’s Natural Gas Alternative Source for Europe

Egypt’s natural gas could prove an alternative energy source for Europe, President Abdel El Sisa said, according to Amwal Al Ghad.

Speaking about recent natural gas discoveries in Egypt and Cyprus, El Sisi noted that–due to their geographical location–they could prove an important source of natural gas for Europe.

“These gas discoveries can contribute to the European continent’s search for alternative energy sources, taking advantage of the position of Egypt and Cyprus,” El Sisi said after meeting with the Cypriot President, Nicos Anastasiades.

Anastasiades, for his part, called Egypt an “absolutely necessary strategic partner.”

Cypriot media further reported that the two presidents agreed to start talks next month on a proposed natural gas pipeline to connect the Cypriot natural gas field, Aphrodite, to Egypt, Xinhua reports.
