President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held a meeting with Wael Sawan, Shell’s CEO, in the presence of Mostafa Madbouly, Egypt’s Prime Minister; Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources; and Dalia El Gabry, VP and Country Chair at Shell Egypt.
The meeting discussed ways to enhance the existing cooperation between the two sides, where the President affirmed Egypt’s efforts to develop the investment climate and overcome any obstacles facing investors. El Sisi noted Egypt’s commitment to paying companies’ dues, which strengthens trust between both sides. He also pointed out the importance of Shell intensifying its exploration and development activities in its concession areas to increase production rates.
For his part, Sawan affirmed Shell’s commitment to continuing cooperation with Egypt and exploring more opportunities in the promising Egyptian energy sector, achieving mutual benefit for both parties. Sawan praised the role played by the Egyptian government in overcoming obstacles in this regard.
Shell started its activities in Egypt in 1911 as an operator of two concessions in Gemsa and Hurghada. Currently has a number of joint ventures and interests in the country, with most of the company’s operations located in the Western Desert and the Nile Delta
