El Molla Reviews Updates of Natural Gas Station Expansion Program

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla chaired a regular meeting to follow up on the updates of an initiative to increase the number of natural gas stations, the ministry said in a statement.

The program comes within the framework of the presidential initiative to expand the use of natural gas as a fuel for cars to benefit citizens and the state from its economic feasibility compared to liquid fuel. In addition to being a clean fuel that many countries of the world are seeking to promote  to reduce carbon emissions harmful to the environment.

The meeting reviewed the status of establishing new natural gas stations, including the progress of the installation of equipment, compressors, civil works, and the extension of gas lines to those stations. Additionally, the possibility of modifying existing liquid fuel stations to cater to cars that run on natural gas was also discussed.

El Molla stressed on the importance of staying committed to the specified timetables and overcoming any obstacles that might hinder this project’s implementation. He also said work should be coordinated with the concerned authorities to obtain the necessary permits.

The discussions also involved an initiative to increase automobile fuel conversion centers to make their services more widely available. It was noted that the conversion rates of automobiles with dual fuel systems (liquid fuel and gas) witnessed a significant increase during the current year compared to 2020.
