El Molla Reviews Progress of New Alamein Silicon Production Complex

Minister of Petroleum Tarek El Molla held a meeting to follow up on the ongoing procedures for implementing the silicon production complex project to be established in New Alamein City.

The project comes within the framework of the strategy of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to implement value-added projects with high economic returns to the Egyptian economy.

During the meeting, El Molla highlighted the great interest of the political leadership in this project, which is one of the priority national projects to achieve the optimal economic benefit from Egypt’s mineral resources, such as quartz, the raw material for this project to manufacture metallic silicon as a first stage.

The minister stated that the importance of the project requires the acceleration of procedures to significantly advance project work during the coming period. He also emphasized adopting an unconventional and different approach in implementing these procedures to ensure speedy implementation.

El Molla added that the last period witnessed the steps of establishing the company executing the project and defining the priorities for its implementation.

The meeting witnessed the follow-up of the procedures of the execution status of the first phase of the project for the production of metallic silicon, which was reviewed by Amgad Kamel, President of Al Alamein Silicon Products Company.

Kamel explained the ongoing procedures for selecting the project’s implementation consultant and general contractor and supplying the raw material and necessary production inputs. The raw material for the project was secured from pure quartz from the concession areas of the Mineral Resources Authority.
