Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla conducted a field tour of the Middle East Oil Refinery’s (MIDOR) expansion projects in Alexandria.
During the tour, El Molla inaugurated the trial operation of the third phase of the project, which includes the air and vacuum distillation complex, the diesel hydrogen treatment project, the hydrogen production project, the acid water treatment unit, and the cooling water unit.
El Molla held an extended meeting with the project team from the Ministry, the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), Enppi, Petrojet, and Technip Energies. Carlo Ignazio Spadavecchia, Executive Project Director, Technip Energies gave a presentation on the expansion project, in the presence of Francesco Cammarata, Assistant President of Technip for Business Development.
The minister highlighted the importance of the expansion project in MIDOR and the consequent increase in the refinery’s capacity and production.
El Molla praised the integration pursued by the project work team and their commitment to implementation according to the plan of the project, although it came in light of huge challenges, on top of which are the challenges facing global supply and supply chains. He also praised the ability of the work team to face these unprecedented challenges.
During the tour, El Molla and the audience listened to a presentation by Sayed Al-Rawi, MIDOR’s Chairman, about the progress in the expansion project, which aims to increase the refinery’s capacity by about 60%.
The presentation included that the implementation of the project and the experimental operation of its production units are accelerated successively until its completion, in complete harmony between the project team, which was able to connect production units with advanced technologies and implement constructions, whether in empty spaces or areas included in the refinery and adherence to occupational safety and health procedures and the sustainability of the refinery’s work.
