Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla has stated that Egypt and the Arab countries have a great opportunity to increase their production of fertilizers.
He emphasized the availability of natural resources, including natural gas and phosphates as well as having ten distinguished plants.
This came during the opening session of the 30th International Arab Fertilizer Association Conference and Exhibition which is held between the period of 27-29 February under the slogan of “Agricultural nutrients for securing food and sustaining environment”.
He highlighted the success of Decarbonization Day at COP27, hosted in Sharm El Sheikh, which marked a significant milestone. For the first time in the history of climate summits, representatives from various industries, including oil, gas, fertilizers, and steel, gathered together. This marked a crucial step towards integrating energy transition solutions into climate discussions.
El Molla also said that the development pace has increased in addition to the projects of green energy and emissions reduction. He stressed on the importance of being ready to deal with the European Union (EU) decision of applying carbon taxes on several Egyptian industries including steel, cement, aluminum, and fertilizers as of January 26.
