El Molla Discuss Exploration Plans with TotalEnergies Delegation

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Tarek El Molla, received a delegation from the French company TotalEnergies, headed by Jean Jaylet, VP North Africa and Yemen. The meeting discussed the company’s plans and programs in the field of gas exploration in its concession areas in the Mediterranean.

El Molla stated that work in investing gas resources in the eastern Mediterranean region is witnessing a great development, within the framework of the system of cooperation and integration created by the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF), which contributed to uniting the efforts of the countries of the region and merging the efforts of governments and international companies operating in the region together, thus contributing to support plans to pump investments in the development of gas resources.

El Molla added that Egypt is considered a platform from which international companies launch to expand their business in the eastern Mediterranean region, in light of the availability of liquefied natural gas infrastructure.

During the meeting, the minister discussed with the officials of the French company the acceleration of the search and exploration of natural gas in its concession areas in the Mediterranean, in an effort to reach the desired results and achieve new discoveries, especially since there are encouraging factors such as the availability of liquefied natural gas infrastructure in Egypt, which can be linked to new discoveries and distinguished expertise in this field.

Gas will remain the most important fuel in the energy mix for a long time, as it is the cleanest fossil fuel and a source of energy, El Molla noted stressing the importance of increasing the use of renewable and green energy in parallel with the increase in natural gas production.

For his part, Jaylet confirmed that the company is interested in increasing the production of natural gas as the ideal fuel and that it plans to accelerate drilling and development operations for gas wells in its concession areas in Egypt, and that the Mediterranean region holds positive hopes and expectations to achieve more successes in the field of natural gas.
