The Egyptian Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA) obtained a site permit to construct Dabaa nuclear power plant, said Amged El Wakeel, head of the NPPA, according to Al Ahram Newspaper.
The site permit was granted upon the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA)’s reviews on the plant’s location, assessing the design of structures and systems as well as the environmental impact, El Wakil noted.
The ENRAA invited a team from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in order to evaluate the plant’s location in regards to Site and External Events Design Review Service (SEED) and site-specific external and internal hazards.
Obtaining the permit is the first step before receiving a construction license. It is a part of the preparation for establishing Egypt’s first nuclear plant.
