Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi has met with a high-level delegation of officials from the Italian company Eni, the largest investor in the energy sector in Egypt.
Eni’s delegation included Guido Brusco, Eni’s Chief Operating Officer-Natural Resources; Martina Opizzi, Eni’s Head of the North Africa and Levant region; Luca Vignati, Eni’s Director of Upstream; and several company officials.
At the beginning of the meeting, Badawi welcomed the officials of the Italian company, emphasizing the importance of the role played by Eni as a historical and strategic partner of Egypt in the energy sector, which has a vital and prominent role in times of challenges, especially in the current period in which it affirms its commitment and support for Egypt’s efforts in developing energy resources.
Badawi highlighted the petroleum sector’s aspiration to achieve more joint successes with the Italian Eni and work to focus joint efforts more on increasing production and developing oil and gas resources, as they are the most important priorities in the Egyptian economy and the energy sector.
The minister stated that the modern technologies applied by Eni in exploration and production will have a major role in this, having contributed to achieving many successes and discovering important fields in Egypt and the world, most notably the Zohr field.
For his part, Brusco expressed his happiness at the first meeting with Badawi after he assumed his position in the new Egyptian government.
Brusco highlighted the company’s pride in its strong partnership with Egypt, which extends to about 70 years, during which we have achieved many successes and overcome challenges together.
Moreover, Brusco pointed out Eni’s commitment and that it has plans to implement well drilling programs in its operating areas in Egypt in several fields to increase production.
