Shell announced that the team representing Zewail City of Science and Technology, named Sound Clash, won first place in the “Imagine the Future” international competition for 2018/2019, which was held in Singapore on July 1-4, Al-Ahram Gate reported.
The Egyptian students’ team, competed with participants from Singapore, China, and Thailand, and presented scenarios that envision the future in 2050 from the technological, social, and environmental aspects.
Moataz Darwish, Deputy Chairman at Shell Egypt, stated that Egypt can face the international energy challenges with its young calibers, who can find creative solutions to build sustainable urban communities using clean and renewable energy resources.
The Sound Clash team qualified for the international contest after winning the local competition, which was organized by Shell in partnership with the American University in Cairo (AUC) and Nahdet El Mahrousa, with 57 participating teams from across the country.
In the international competition, Sound Clash presented the “Orchestra VS Jazz” Scenarios for 2050, discussing two potential perspectives on the future, where either a systematic Orchestra-like world sees governments and big corporations control data and technology, or a more open liberated Jazz-like world, where small companies get the chance to prosper, according to Moustafa Badawy, Energy and Bioprocess program Head in Zewail City.
According to Shell, Imagine The Future Scenarios Competition provides plausible alternative views of the future, building and using scenarios to help explore what the future might look like and the likely challenges it may hold.
