Egyptian, Jordanian Petroleum Ministers Discuss Natural Gas Integration

As part of his Visit to Amman, Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, met with Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, to discuss the cooperation between the two countries in the oil and gas sector.

The two ministers stressed the importance of building on their cooperation in natural gas, which utilizes existing infrastructure, including the gas network connecting Egypt and Jordan, as well as the liquefied natural gas (LNG) import system, while also promoting the exchange of technical expertise.

In July, the two ministers witnessed the commissioning of the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Energos Force at the Port of Aqaba. The vessel receives imported LNG shipments, regasifies it, and pumps it into the Arab Gas Pipeline -to which Egypt is connected-  to secure energy supply and effectively handle any emergencies.

During the visit, the two ministers celebrated the leadership handover in the Jordanian Egyptian FAJR company for Natural Gas Transmission and Supply. The company’s chairman, Fouad Rashad, handed over his role to the new CEO and General Manager, Yasser Salah Eldin.

The Jordanian Egyptian FAJR Company began operations in December 2003, when its founding partners decided to establish a company dedicated to transporting and exporting natural gas. The company was tasked with implementing and operating the second phase of the Arab Gas Pipeline within Jordan up to the Jordanian–Syrian border, under a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) scheme for 30 years, extendable by an additional 10 years.
