Egypt, Wintershall Dea Agree to Explore CCUS Opportunities

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla has met with the CEO of Wintershall Dea Mario Mehren where they agreed on working together to explore carbon, capture, storage and utilization (CCUS) opportunities.

During their meeting, they showcased the latest challenges facing the global petroleum industry in addition to the countries’ efforts to secure oil and gas supplies and sustainability as well as energy transition and emission reduction.

The two parties also discussed petroleum investment opportunities in Egypt. El Molla affirmed that the Egyptian petroleum sector is intensifying exploration and production activities to increase production. He emphasized Egypt’s efforts to achieve global energy security and stability as a regional hub for trading oil and gas.

Additionally, the minister said that energy transition efforts should cope with developing fossil fuel resources, especially natural gas. For his part, Mehren affirmed his company’s commitment to continue its operations and expand its business portfolio in Egypt during the upcoming period. He confirmed the necessity of continuing operations and investments in new natural gas discoveries and development.
