Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla met with the US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt and Brad Crabtree, Assistant Secretary for the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM), on the sidelines of the CERAWeek, the ministry said in a statement.
The meeting dealt with ways of increasing cooperation in the field of energy transition and reducing emissions in the oil and gas industry within the framework of the strategic partnership between the two countries in the field of energy and their participation in the Global Methane Pledge.
El Molla explained that Egypt is moving forward in implementing a number of energy transition initiatives and programs in the oil and gas industry on the ground, which were announced during its organization of COP27.
The meeting also reviewed the growing regional role of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF) as a model for achieving optimal utilization of natural resources in the region to contribute to securing supplies and working at the same time to achieve sustainability through its initiative to decarbonize natural gas, which was praised by the US.
