Egypt, UN Discuss Energy Cooperation

Egyptian and UN officials met to discuss cooperation in the Energy sector, Egypt Oil & Gas reports.

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla met with the First Undersecretary General of the United Nations (UN) Economic and Social Commission for West Asia, Mohamed Ali El Hakim, to discuss opportunities for cooperation between Egypt’s oil and gas sector and the ESCWA.

El Molla outlined Egypt’s vision for modernizing its oil and gas sector and its aspiration to become a regional oil and gas trading hub. He highlighted Egypt’s economic reforms and its efforts to attract additional investment funds.

El Hakim expressed ESCWA’s interest in cooperating with Egypt by providing operational support to Egypt’s energy sector.

He noted that ESCWA seeks to boost cooperation between countries in the region and encourage the exchange of knowledge.

ESCWA was established in 1973 and is one of five regional committees formed by the UN to encourage economic and social development.
