In a statement to Egypt Oil&Gas, sources from the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum stated that the ministry is working on resolving disputes on household gas invoices. They added that the government will empower citizens to read their own gas meters in order to avoid over charging .
To facility the self-reporting process for citizen living in closed compounds, homeowners will be able to register readings off gas meters and leave the information with the compound’s security at entry gates, report them through a dedicated hotline, or via the gas distribution company’s website.
This update comes on the heals of citizens complaining about exaggerated gas bills. Egypt Oil&Gas reported in mid August that gas distribution companies have started reviewing high bills for domestic dwelling, and rereading gas meters in order to modify household gas charges, which surpassed EGP 2,000 per dwelling and provoked public anger.
In other news, the ministry is working on connecting natural gas to 27 governorates during the current fiscal year 2016/2017, with payment facilities of up to 6 months via Nasser Social Bank, for domestic installation fees.
