Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Hala Al-Saeed, said that the Integrated Sustainable Energy Strategy (ISES 2035) represents the cornerstone of the plan to diversify energy sources in Egypt, Al Ahram Newspaper reported.

Al-Saeed revealed that Egypt aims to produce 1.5 million tons of green hydrogen annually by 2030, rising to 5.8 million tons by 2040, explaining that the Suez Canal Economic Zone participates in the production of green hydrogen.

Additionally, Al-Saeed noted that the percentage of green projects in the plan will increase to 50% during the next fiscal year. She highlighted the issuance of sovereign green bonds in 2020, making Egypt the first country in the Middle East and North Africa region to do so.

The Minister’s statements came during her participation at the special meeting of the World Economic Forum, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia during the period from April 28-29, on “Global Cooperation, Growth and Energy for Development.”
