The Head of the electricity sector at Al Wadi Al Gadeed, Khedr Sayed Aly, stated that three new solar energy power plants will be launched in the governorate with investments around $15m funded by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), reported Al Watan Newspaper.

The first power plant is located in Farafra area with a capacity of 5MW, the second is in Abou Menkar village with a capacity of 0.5MW, and the final facility is at the Darb El Arbaeen area also with a capacity of 0.5MW. In addition, a solar residential power plant will be launched with the capacity to lighten 480 residential dwellings in Wadi Shab villages.

The companies were studying the proposals, pending the launch of the government’s phase II for its Feed-in-Tarrif (FiT) program.
