Senior officials from the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) officials met with a delegation from the African Legal Support Facility (ALSF), an affiliate of the African Development Bank (AFDB), to discuss possible cooperation opportunities between the two sides. ALSF helps African governments negotiate complex commercial deals and manage disputes, especially in energy, infrastructure, and finance.
During the meeting, they discussed strategies to strengthen the negotiation skills of the entities affiliated with the petroleum ministry. The meeting also highlighted Egypt’s successful track record in the oil and gas sector as a model for attracting investment and solidifying its role as a regional hub for gas trade
Both sides discussed opportunities for cooperation in providing specialized advisory services, particularly in value‑added projects in petrochemicals and fertilizers, launching international bid rounds, and preparing feasibility studies for promising ventures.
Talks also covered technical and legal support for the mining sector, stressing the importance of ALSF’s expertise in developing contractual frameworks aligned with international best practices.
The ministry emphasized that partnership with ALSF is a key step toward accelerating development in petroleum, gas, and mining by transferring global expertise and building national capacity to fully leverage Egypt’s natural resources.
Members of the ALSF delegation expressed interest in expanding cooperation with Egypt in various fields of extractive industries, which they view as promising growth sectors in Africa.
Since its operation in 2010, ALSF has supported over 260 projects across 45 countries with approximately $112 million in legal assistance.
The delegation included senior ALSF officials as well as representatives from the Central Bank of Egypt, Mohamed El‑Bagoury, General Manager for Legal Department at the MoPMR, and Abeer El‑Sherbiny, the MoPMR’s Technical Office Manager and official spokesperson.
